Lined Seahorse

Lined Seahorse - Hippocampus erectus, Family: Pipefish & seahorse - Syngnathidae1

It's highly unusual, but I actually found this critter floating near the surface in Key Largo, FL with his tail wrapped around some sea grass. I grabbed my mask, fins and snorkel and jumped in the water. Seahorses are shy creatures, and this one was no different, so I didn't bother him for long.

"Distinctive Features: 1. Numerous lines on head and often down neck and back. Description: Vary from reddish orange to brown or even black. Markings also vary."1
