Milford Sound
Milford Sound, New Zealand. There was a storm rolling in over Milford Sound, on New Zealand's South Island, when I took this picture.
Milford Sound is actually a fjord, not a sound; fjords are formed by glaciation. The Tasman Sea flooded this glacial valley, which is about
12 miles long, more than 1,000 feet and is surrounded by mountains that rise 6,000 feet above sea level.
